A resident of South Carolina, Nicholas began his clarinet studies at the age of twelve, and was awarded a full scholarship to the South Carolina Governor's High School for the Arts and Humanities in clarinet performance. Since then, Nicholas has won numerous top prizes, including the Music Teacher's National Association Competition, the Clemson University and SUNY Purchase Concerto Competitions, and several state accolades. In the summer of 2006, Nicholas attended the Interlochen Arts Camp, where he studied with Deborah Chodacki and Scott Anderson, and worked with artists such as Frank Ticheli, Olga Kern, and David Maslanka. As an orchestral musician, Nicholas was previously the principal of the Carolina Youth Symphony and Greenville County Youth Orchestra, has appeared with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and served as bass clarinetist with the Converse College Wind Ensemble for the 2004-2005 season. Nicholas has been featured in masterclasses by The Imani Winds, Dan Gilbert, Mariam Adam, David Schifrin, Jordi Albert, and Richard Hawkins. Nicholas studies at the Purchase Conservatory of Music with Ayako Oshima, where he is also pursuing degrees in Arts Management and Global Black Studies. |

Clarinetist Nicholas Graham, 19, made his national debut in 2006 on "From the Top!" the NPR broadcasted program that showcases America's young, talented musicians. He was chosen from hundreds of musicians to perform on the first taping of the show's 13-part television special "From the Top! Live from Carnegie Hall". Along with a performance of the Schumann Fantasiestücke with renown pianist Christopher O'Riley aired on PBS, the prize package included performances in New York City's Steinway and Zankel Halls. Most recently, Nicholas performed with the New York Youth Symphony in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium under the baton of Ryan McAdams, where he serves as assistant principal for the Spring 2009 season.
